SUPERMAN'S GIRLFRIEND LOIS LANE...in "LOIS LANE'S GUIDE TO LIFE"

Publisher Cider Mill Press(Bookwise International in NZ & Aust) NZ $18.00

When we were kids growing up in Gisborne in the 1950's our parents had a standing order for magazines at Eastwood's Bookstore on the corner of Gladstone Road and Derby Street, (my favourite shop in town). I recall we got The Weekly News, Truth, The English Women's Weekly, the NZ Woman's Weekly and The Daily Mirror. And we kids were occasionally allowed a few comics and among those I remember were Scrooge McDuck, Archie and Veronica, Beano, The Phantom and best of all Superman !
So it was a real nostalgia trip for me reading this fun package from Cider Mill Press. I say package because it comes in an attractive, sturdy box and most excitingly it includes a great set of 16 fridge magnets which each depict classic covers from the original comics.

Here is a peek at them:

The book itself is not, of course, to be taken seriously, it is just a load of fun. Here is a small example:

Take it from Lois, you'll feel a total heel when you bawl out your boyfriend for being late, only to later realise that he was off saving an orphanage full of children from a raging inferno.

As a newspaper reporter Lois knows the importance of getting her facts straight; because nothing rings the death-knell of a relationship like prematurely presuming the worst about your significant other. True, if he didn't call when he said he would, it could mean he's a selfish cad. Then again, it could signify that he has been sidelined by a band of evil marauders.

Great fun, a novel gift for someone?
(the magnets look fabulous on our fridge door!).
