ESPECIALLY FOR TRAIN LOVERS

"MAKING RAILWAY HISTORY”

presented by Neill Atkinson -

Wednesday 3 October 2007
Ground Floor, Radio NZ House, 155 The Terrace, Wellington.
12.15pm to 1.30pm.

This seminar will explore new approaches to New Zealand's railway history, a subject that has been exhaustively researched by enthusiasts but largely ignored by academic historians. It will also consider the Railways Department's role as a history-maker. Years before the 1940 Centennial, this state agency was publishing historical booklets, tourist guides and a monthly general-interest magazine, blurring the lines between public history and publicity.

And watch out for Neill's superb new book being published by Random House on 5 October - TRAINLAND

This will be reviewed by Bookman Beattie next week.
