Don’t Puke On Your Dad - a book for Father's day !

When it comes to reading first hand accounts of fatherhood its slim pickings on the bookshelves, however Toby Morris’ illustrated book Don’t Puke on Your Dad signals a sea change.

Thirty two year old Morris is an illustrator, designer, art director and comic artist. He recently returned home with his family to New Zealand after living in Melbourne and Amsterdam.

Morris who has previously published Alledaags A Year in Amsterdam in 2010 says he hadn’t really planned to write a book on becoming a first time dad. In the whirlwind that followed the birth of his son Max in September 2011 he was blissfully unaware of archiving all the moments, big and small through simple line drawings and written observations.

He is candid about how fatherhood has transformed him and says Don’t Puke On Your Dad captures the milestones for both Max and himself. “It was a massively life changing experience. In some ways it was the toughest year of my life but it was also certainly the best year too.”

Morris hopes guys reading Don’t Puke on Your Dad will be reassured about their pending role of fatherhood. “There is a lot to laugh about, it’s not all scary,” says Morris.

“Guys are terrible at talking to each other – during the pregnancy my girlfriend would sit down and talk all night to her mates, while the guys would just shrug and be like ‘I dunno dude, it’s crazy.’”

Beatnik Publishing Director Sally Greer says Don’t Puke On Your Dad pioneers a fresh approach to modern fatherhood.

“It reflects a new culture of men increasingly becoming more engaged and hands on as fathers. Beatnik naturally is thrilled to be publishing Don't Puke On Your Dad,” says Greer.
