New Zealand Book Council/Creative New Zealand 2013/14 International Travel Fund grants open for applications

New Zealand authors are invited to apply for 2013/2014 New Zealand Book Council/Creative New Zealand International Travel Fund grants.

The New Zealand Book Council/Creative New Zealand 2013 International Travel Fund aims to showcase New Zealand writing talent overseas by supporting the attendance of New Zealand writers to a range of key international writing festivals and events.

In April this year it was announced that Eleanor Catton, Aki Fukuoka, Charlotte Grimshaw, C.K. Stead, Fiona Kidman, Kate De Goldi, Dylan Horrocks, and Rhiann Gallagher would be supported through the Fund to attend a range of high-profile international literary festivals.

In the first instance the Fund aims to building strong relationships with both close neighbours Australia and key international English language festivals in the UK, Canada and the United States. Applications from other festivals and event organisers for initiatives that support Creative New Zealand’s strategic outcomes will also be considered. However, priority will be given to the festivals listed on the Book Council website.

Author applicants must be New Zealand citizens or have permanent resident status, as defined by Immigration New Zealand. New Zealand citizens need not be living in New Zealand when they apply. Support is only available for festivals and events outside of New Zealand.

Applicants or invitees must be recognised professional writers who have had:
• at least one book published by a professional publishing house OR
• for fiction, a minimum of four texts of creative writing (e.g., short stories, excerpts from a novel) published on two separate occasions in literary magazines, recognised periodicals (including general interest magazines) or anthologies published by professional publishing houses OR
• for poetry, a minimum of 10 published poems
