S&S updates Andy Murray biography, signs Lions Captain Sam Warburton

S&S head of sport Ian Marshall has tipped sports books to be "at the centre of autumn's biggest sellers" following the "feel good factor" triumphs of Andy Murray at Wimbledon and the Lions rugby victory in Australia last weekend.

Following Britain's successful sporting weekend, Marshall signed Lion's captain Sam Warburton to write a Captain's Diary of the tour following the Britain and Ireland team's 41-16 victory in Sydney last Saturday (6th July). World rights were signed via Derwyn Jones of the Welshman's management company. It will be the second book Warburton has penned for S&S, the first being My Grand Slam Year, which covered Warburton becoming the Welsh captain, participating in the Rugby World Cup, the Grand Slam and the Six Nations.

Meanwhile after Andy Murray's victory over Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon on Sunday (7th July), S&S will publish an updated version of Mark Hodgkinson's biography of the British tennis player, now retitled Andy Murray Wimbledon Champion, in August. Hodgkinson was the first national newspaper journalist to interview Murray when he was a teenager and used to work with Judy Murray on her newspaper columns.

Marshall said: "We thought last year – with the Olympics and Bradley Wiggins – couldn't be improved upon. But already this year is shaping up to be another terrific one for sports fans across the country. There is no doubt that success on the field generates a huge feel-good factor, and this will definitely feed its way through into the marketplace. I am sure that sports books will be at the centre of this autumn's biggest sellers, and am delighted that at Simon & Schuster we have such a great range of titles to benefit from this trend."
