breakers - the making of New Zealand's champion teanm

We determined that we would be a club based on values – doing things the right way. We wanted to be a family and help people be the best they could be. – Andrej Lemanis

Ten years ago, the SkyCity NZ Breakers were a team on the make. No one knew much about them and, despite some early success, they grabbed media headlines for all the wrong reasons. Players and management were often at loggerheads; arrogance and off-court antics were legion. And then along came legendary coach Andrej Lemanis and everything changed.

Lemanis instilled a new culture at Breakers headquarters; one where values and respect were king. Their new mantra was threefold: Vision – to be a basketball dynasty; Mission – to be a sustainable, successful, professional and relevant basketball club; and Values – one team + courage + integrity = champions. And it worked.

Breakers is an epic story of courage, camaraderie and determination, celebrated in both pictures and words. Featuring stunning action and stills photography of the team from leading sports picture agency Photosport – some of it previously unpublished – Breakers is a unique portrait of a team at the top of their game; a great New Zealand success story.

Written by basketball legend and award-winning journalist Marc Hinton, Breakers includes candid commentary from both players and personnel – Andrej Lemanis, Paul Henare, Dillon Boucher, Kirk Penney, Mika Vukona, CJ Bruton, Cedric Jackson, and many more. Hinton goes behind the headlines to reveal the team’s adrenalin-fuelled journey; from their challenging start at the bottom of the League, through turbulent and testing times to ultimate victory.

A perfect gift for Father's Day and a bargain at only $25.00.
