1. Writers on Mondays
The programme for this free lunchtime reading series at Te Papa has just been launched. Forthcoming highlights include Patricia Grace in conversation with Briar Grace-Smith, Jenny Bornholdt chaired by James Brown, and Ashleigh Young talking about her long-awaited essay collection with Kirsten McDougall. The first event is our current Writing Fellow Anne Kennedy in conversation with Pip Adam on 11 July.
2. Doctors Who
We applauded Steven Toussaint as he walked across the stage at the Michael Fowler Centre last month to receive his doctorate. Steve is the current University of Waikato Writer in Residence.
Airini Beautrais and Sue Orr have successfully defended their PhD theses. Airini researched narrative poetry and also wrote a book-length collection of poems. Sue studied eavesdropping in the novels of Maurice Gee and wrote The Party Line, which was published last year.
