The Pigeon Tunnel
John le Carre
Viking
RRP $38.00

’Out of the secret world I once knew, I have tried to make a theatre for the larger worlds we inhabit. First comes the imagining, then the search for reality. Then back to the imagining and to the desk where I’m sitting now.’ — John le Carre

John le Carré was born in 1931. His third novel, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, secured him a worldwide reputation, which was consolidated by the acclaim for his trilogy Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Honourable Schoolboy and Smiley’s People.

Le Carré is unsurpassed among contemporary novelists in his ability to make thrilling and morally resonant narratives out of the iniquities of our age. For more than fifty years, ‘straight out of a le Carré novel’ has been the go-to phrase used to describe surreptitious and nefarious actions by governments or corporations.

Le Carré’s most recent novel, A Delicate Truth was a number one bestseller in hardback and paperback. This year, the adaptation of his novel, The Night Manager, was one of the BBC’s most successful dramas, gripping over eight million viewers a week.

On 19th September 2016 Viking publishes The Pigeon Tunnel. In this, his first work of non-fiction, le Carré offers us a glimpse of a writer’s journey over more than six decades and his own hunt for the human spark that has given so much life and heart to his characters.
