The British Book Awards
The Bookseller has acquired The British Book Awards, also known as the Nibbies, from the estate of Publishing News founder and editor Fred Newman. The deal means that in 2017 The Bookseller will run a unified book awards event for the first time since 2004, when the British Book Awards split into separate trade and book awards.
The majority of independent bookshops saw like-for-like sales increases over the Christmas period as a feared hit to consumer spending after the Brexit vote did not come into fruition.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
It was a happy festive finish for the UK trade with £277.2m worth of books sold in the four weeks up to the 24th December through Nielsen BookScan's Total Consumer Market, an 8.1% rise over the same Christmas period in 2015.

Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards 2016
